This is a follow-up to a discussion we had last week at the EMS Advisory Board meeting, regarding State Medicaid refusal to pay claims for ambulance service (or, in some cases, demand repayment of claims previously paid) when the patient was received out side of the primary operating territory of the billing ambulance service.

The attached letter from OHIP (the State agency that administers Medicaid payments) confirms that such claims are legitimate, and will be paid, if the response was made pursuant to a Regional EMS Council-approved Mutual Aid Plan.

Please be assured that dispatches made by the Broome County Emergency Services Communications Center are in keeping with the County EMS Mutual Aid Plan, which has been duly-approved by the Susquehanna Regional EMS Council, and are therefore legal and compensable for the responding agencies.
